About Us

Introduction

Hi, I'm Tim Gerritsen, the owner of KiwiAz Trailers.

KiwiAz is a locally owned and operated trailer and engineering business based in Whakatāne. We specialize in custom trailers, trailer repairs, general engineering and trailer hire, with a focus on practical solutions, quality workmanship and good service.

I've lived in Whakatāne for nearly 20 years and have worked in the engineering industry for the past nine years. Taking over KiwiAz has given me the opportunity to put that experience into a business of my own, while continuing to work and live in the local community.

Our Story

KiwiAz was originally started by Mano and Sian eight years ago. They built the business from the ground up and established a good reputation for quality trailer work and practical engineering.

In July 2026, I took the opportunity to purchase KiwiAz after hearing through family that the business was up for sale.

Before taking over, I had spent nine years working across welding, fabrication, production and general engineering, eventually progressing into a 2IC role. After nine years, I felt it was time for a change and the next logical step for me was to own and run a business of my own. KiwiAz was a good fit, giving me the opportunity to put my experience to use while taking the business in my own direction.

Looking Ahead

The focus now is on continuing to grow KiwiAz and building on what Mano and Sian have already created.

A big part of that will be expanding our trailer hire range, continuing to develop our range of quality trailers, and growing the general engineering and repair side of the business.

We want to keep KiwiAz practical and hands-on. Whether it's building a custom trailer, repairing an existing one, carrying out general engineering work or supplying a trailer for hire, the aim is to provide quality workmanship and a solution that works for the customer.

We're proud to be a locally owned Whakatāne business and look forward to continuing to grow the KiwiAz name.
